Tips to Prevent Diseases Spread by Mosquitoes
Did you know that mosquito-borne diseases are those spread by the bite of an infected mosquito? Some mosquito-borne diseases that are spread to people by mosquitoes include Zika virus, West Nile virus, and Malaria.
Zika, is spread mostly by the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. These mosquitoes bite during the day and night.
According to the CDC the best way to prevent diseases spread by mosquitoes is to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bites by:
- Empty, cover, or throw out any items that hold water like tires, buckets, planters, toys, birdbaths, flowerpot saucers, or trash containers.
- For containers without lids, use wire mesh with holes smaller than an adult.
- Regularly mow your lawn and cut down weeds near your house.
- Keep rain gutters clean.
- Hire a pest control professional to treat your property.
- Also home owners can keep mosquitoes out of their home by installing/repairing and/use window/door screens. Do not leave doors propped open.
