Love the Outdoors? Check Out Our Quick Facts on Ticks
Peak tick season typically runs from April – September, as the weather is warming & we all seek to be outside after being cooped up indoors all winter; check out our few quick facts about ticks:
- Ticks are actually not insects; they are arachnids (along with spiders and horseshoe crabs!). Because of their joint-legged bodies, they essentially sit and wait with their legs in the air for a host to brush by to attach themselves to.
- When a tick lands on your body, it will migrate to an area that is warm and moist such as behind your ears, armpits, groin, or scalp. Once it settles in, it will penetrate and burrow into your skin.
- After being outside, take a hot shower and inspect your body for the potential presence of ticks. Also, wash the clothes you wore outdoors in hot water to eliminate any ticks that might have latched on them.
